As it develops, the marzipan and sugar become more apparent, adding a delicate almond-like sweetness beneath the vanilla. The cake character gradually becomes less prominent, allowing the fragrance to move away from a straightforward birthday-cake scent.
In the drydown, warm beeswax becomes much more noticeable alongside the vanilla. This gives the fragrance a soft, slightly waxy character reminiscent of the candles on a birthday cake.
