Are Your Perfumes Genuine?
Our decants are 100% genuine.
We source our fragrances directly from reputable retailers and authorised distributors. Each decant is carefully filled with authentic perfume, ensuring you experience the true essence of the fragrance.
By offering decants, we provide a convenient and affordable way to explore a wide range of fragrances without committing to full-size bottles. You can confidently sample and discover new scents, knowing that you're getting the genuine article.
Why Does My Sample Smell Different?
It's totally normal to notice a slight difference between a new bottle of perfume and an older one. Here are a few reasons why this might happen:
Reformulation: Sometimes, perfume companies change the ingredients or the way they're mixed. This can lead to a slightly different scent, even if it's the same perfume name.
Batch Variations: Just like baking a cake, even small differences in ingredients or the baking process can affect the final taste. The same goes for perfume! Different batches can have tiny variations in scent.
Maceration Magic: Perfume needs time to "mature" and develop its full scent. A new bottle might not have had this time, making it smell a bit different at first.
Are your vegan, cruelty-free, phthalate-free, and sustainable claims accurate?
We strive to be accurate in our claims; however, we're just providing a quick overview of the brand. Just because a brand doesn't have our label, it doesn't mean they don't offer vegan or phthalate-free perfumes. We believe it is a good idea to do your own research to make sure you're comfortable with the products you choose.
I Want A Perfume You Don't Have, Can I Request It?
Of course! We'd love to bring you a wide variety of perfumes, and we're more than happy to get one in that we don't currently carry. You can email us at info@theperfumeapothecary.com or fill in the "Contact Us" form and tell us your request.
Why Are Some Of The Perfumes More Expensive Than The Others?
That's a great question. I’m a perfume lover and enthusiast, just like you, and I found that there were some perfumes I couldn’t get in this country. What I wanted to do was bring them to you, but this does come with a bit of a cost. On top of the regular cost of the perfume and international shipping, perfume is classified as a hazardous good. This means that only certain shipping companies are able to handle them. Additionally, when the perfumes arrive in the UK, they have to go through customs, which incurs an extra charge. All of these costs are taken into consideration when pricing the samples. We try to bring them to you at the lowest reasonable price we can.
How should I use The Perfume Apothecary’s samples?
Our perfume samples are intended for olfactory exploration only and are best enjoyed using a fragrance test strip or blotter. Simply spray or dab a small amount onto a strip to experience the scent as it unfolds over time — just as perfumers and fragrance houses do during evaluations.
These decants are not intended for direct application to the skin, clothes or hair and we advise against using them as wearable cosmetics. This protects you from any skin sensitivity risks. We take product integrity seriously.
All our decants are prepared from authentic, original fragrances that have already undergone extensive safety testing by their original manufacturers. We purchase directly from authorised distributors or retailers to ensure that what you smell is 100% genuine.

How Should I Store My Perfume To Make It Last Longer?
To keep your perfume smelling its best, store it in a cool, dark place away from direct sunlight and humidity. A closet or drawer is ideal. Avoid storing it in the bathroom, as the heat and moisture can degrade the fragrance.

What Are The Differences Between Designer, Niche, Artisan, And Indie Perfumes
Designer Perfumes: Produced by luxury fashion houses, these mass-market fragrances aim for broad appeal. They are widely available and rely on celebrity endorsements and heavy marketing. While popular and pleasant, they often prioritize commercial success over artistic creativity.
Niche Perfumes: Created by independent perfumers, niche fragrances emphasize quality, originality, and exclusivity. They feature complex, unconventional scents and high-quality ingredients, offering a more sophisticated, personalized fragrance experience.
Ultra-Niche Perfumes: A more exclusive subset of niche perfumes, ultra-niche fragrances are produced in limited quantities and are highly sought after by collectors. They often reflect the perfumer’s artistic vision and draw inspiration from art, nature, or personal experiences.
Indie Perfumes: Independent, often smaller-scale perfumers create unique, unconventional scents, typically sold directly to consumers online or at specialized retailers. While resource constraints may exist, indie perfumes offer a more personal and affordable approach.
Artisan Perfumes: Crafted by skilled artisans using traditional methods and high-quality ingredients, artisan perfumes are often made in small batches. These fragrances tend to focus on nature-inspired, complex scent profiles, offering exclusivity and craftsmanship.
What Are The Differences Between Perfume Concentrations And How Do They Affect My Fragrance?
The concentration of perfume oil determines the scent's strength, longevity, and overall character. Higher concentrations last longer and are more intense, while lower concentrations offer lighter, more fleeting scents.
Extrait de Parfum (Parfum):
Concentration: 20-40%
Longevity: 6-12 hours
Character: Intense and luxurious, long-lasting.
Eau de Parfum (EDP):
Concentration: 15-20%
Longevity: 4-6 hours
Character: Balanced, suitable for day or night wear.
Eau de Toilette (EDT):
Concentration: 5-15%
Longevity: 2-4 hours
Character: Light and refreshing, ideal for daytime.
Eau de Cologne (EDC):
Concentration: 2-4%
Longevity: 1-2 hours
Character: Very light, often used as an aftershave or freshener.
Eau Fraiche:
Concentration: 1-3%
Longevity: Less than 1 hour
Character: Extremely light, often used as a body spray.
