What It Smells Like
Tome opens with an unusually convincing impression of old paper, parchment and bookbinding materials. The vintage book accord is the defining feature, giving the opening a dry, dusty quality that recalls opening an old leather-bound volume. A subtle black tea and glue facet adds further realism, while the leather begins to emerge underneath.
As it develops, the leather and woods become more prominent. Sandalwood and cedar give the composition a dry, structured character, while orris and rice paper contribute a soft, powdery texture. Coffee, black tea and oakmoss add depth around the central book accord, creating the impression of an old library rather than simply a leather fragrance. Wearer experiences vary, with some finding the paper and book effect exceptionally realistic and others experiencing the leather or damp, earthy facets more strongly.
In the drydown, tobacco, sandalwood, cedar and ambrette soften the sharper paper and leather facets. The fragrance becomes warmer, smoother and slightly powdery while retaining the distinctive impression of aged books and leather bindings. On some skin, the drydown becomes particularly cosy and subtly sweet, while the book accord remains recognisable for hours.
