What It Smells Like
Be Very Afraid opens with an unusual combination of TV static and flesh accords, creating an immediately strange, dusty and slightly electric impression. Rather than smelling literally of either concept, the effect is often interpreted as warm electronics, heated dust, plastic or an abstract animalic quality. Some wearers find the opening sharp and challenging, while others experience it as nostalgic and atmospheric.
As it develops, red champaca and cannabis buds bring the fragrance into a greener, more herbal territory. The champaca contributes a rich floral quality, while the cannabis accord adds depth and an earthy, aromatic character rather than simply smelling like cannabis. Tarragon further reinforces the bitter-green, herbal side of the composition. Recent reviews describe this stage as herbal, warm and slightly skin-like, with the electronic accord still hovering underneath.
In the dry down, ambergris becomes more prominent, giving the composition a warmer, musky and animalic foundation. The sharpness of the opening softens, leaving behind a mixture of herbal greenery, floral warmth, skin-like musk and the lingering suggestion of heated electronics. Some reviewers find the dry down considerably more wearable than the opening, while others continue to experience it as intensely strange and unconventional.
