What It Smells Like
Squid opens with a sharp, slightly metallic brightness from pink pepper, quickly joined by a solar salicylate accord that adds a warm, almost glowing synthetic “sunlight on water” impression. Incense is present from the start, giving the opening a smoky, resinous edge.
As it develops, the fragrance becomes darker and more atmospheric. The black ink accord is the defining feature here, creating a dense, inky, slightly bitter marine-mineral character. A salty accord enhances the maritime feel, while opoponax adds a deep resinous sweetness that softens the edges without removing the darkness.
In the dry down, ambergris and benzoin create a warm, slightly animalic marine sweetness. Musk smooths the composition, leaving a lingering salty-resinous base that stays close to the skin but remains distinctive.
